Nursery

Welcome to Highfield Nursery

Highfield Nursery is set within Highfield Primary School and operates during term times only. It is a colourful, vibrant environment where young children can learn through structured play activities. They have their own specifically designed outdoor area outdoor area which enables them to learn through play and supports the children’s physical development

In September 2025 Highfield Nursery will be offering 30 hour and 15 hour provision.

Children will develop their social, emotional and physical skills at different rates. Please consider the length of time your child will be able to successfully manage at our Nursery before applying. You are welcome to contact the school to discuss what provision may be best for your child.

Options:

All pupils are entitled to the universal offer of 15 hours free provision which runs as either a morning session or an afternoon session. These sessions cover the full requirements of the curriculum. Parents can choose additional hours on top of this, which may be free if parents are eligible for the government’s 30-hour scheme.

Parents are also able to pay for nursery fees with childcare vouchers – this is not to be confused with the Government 15/30 hour funding.

We have spaces for 30 children at each session. We do operate a waiting list.

Uniform:

Children are not expected to wear school uniform, although some families do choose to have their child wear school uniform. We do ask that children come in comfortable appropriate clothing. These should be easy for the children to put on/pull up etc. to develop their independence skills. Spare clothes need to be in a small bag, not a rucksack, and these will be kept in Nursery. All items including bags need to be clearly named.

It is important that every effort is made to support your child to be toilet trained by the time they join our Nursery, if your child is still in nappies or pull ups, please supply a change of nappies and wipes or creams that they would normally use in their bag, which will be kept in Nursery.

Your child will be experimenting with many messy activities. We are happy to change any wet or messy clothes if you have provided a supply. It is also a good idea to have a spare pair of shoes in your child’s bag if possible. Please ensure these are named If your child has pierced ears, they must only wear stud earrings.

General Information:

The nursery doors open at 8.30am for the morning session. Parents come through into the nursery garden and drop their child at the door to nursery.

Some children go home at 11:30am and the afternoon children come into nursery at 12.30pm.

Parents enter through the main entrance on Highfield Road. It is important that parents and carers arrive on time. If you are late please press the nursery buzzer.

At the end of the children’s session parents will enter through the Our Main (middle) entrance on Highfield Road , either through the buzzer gate or open gate at the end of the day. Parents are asked to wait in the area outside the gate to the Nursery playground and the children will be brought out to you. All gates that parents or carers open to enter, need to be closed behind them as we operate different timetables.

Please be punctual when arriving and collecting your child. If possible, please telephone the school to inform us if you are going to be late. In cases of late collection, we reserve the right to charge £5 for every 10 minutes you are late.

We look forward to welcoming your child into the Nursery setting. We are confident that your child will settle in well and are looking forward to a fun and fulfilling year.
