Nursery

Welcome to Highfield Nursery

Highfield Nursery is set within Highfield Primary School and operates during term times only. It is a colourful, vibrant environment where young children can learn through structured play activities. They have their own specifically designed outdoor area outdoor area which enables them to learn through play and supports the children’s physical development

In September 2025 Highfield Nursery will be offering 30 hour and 15 hour provision.

Children will develop their social, emotional and physical skills at different rates. Please consider the length of time your child will be able to successfully manage at our Nursery before applying. You are welcome to contact the school to discuss what provision may be best for your child

Our times are as follows:

  • Our sessions are 3 hours in length.
  • Our funded morning times are 8:30am – 11:30pm
  • Our funded afternoon times are 12:30pm – 3:30pm

The Nursery Timetable:

  • Lunch session: 11:30-12.30pm £6.75 (please provide your child with a packed lunch or you are welcome to take your child home at lunch and not pay the additional fee.
  • Afternoon session: 12.30-3.30pm £20.25 (or 15 hours funding)

Parents can choose from 5 morning sessions or 5 afternoon sessions or 5 full days.  You may also book for a combination of funded and non-funded sessions depending on availability. All funded or paid sessions must be booked and paid for in advance. All sessions have a four week notice period.

We offer 30 hours of funded provision for eligible parents: to find out if you are eligible for 30 hours free child care please visit: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.   Funded sessions are 8:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30.

All sessions have a four week notice period.

Children entitled to the 15hr free funding can spread their funding across the week through attending nursery each morning or each afternoon.  This would mean the 15hrs is spread across 5 daily sessions between either (8:30-11:30) or (11:30-3:30). Funding starts the term following the child’s 3rd birthday  (January, April or September). For example, if your child’s birthday is in February funding will start in April. Children will be able to join Highfield the Highfield Nursery the following September after their 3rd birthday.

Children entitled to 30hrs free funding can attend nursery each morning (8:30-11:30) and each afternoon (12:30-3:30) and pay the additional £6.75 for lunch care and bring in a packed lunch.

Below are the details of the session times and prices.

Can be used as part of the 15hr or 30hr funding.

Lunch session 11.30am – 12.30pm £6.75. Please provide a packed lunch for your child. The lunch session is an additional charge and cannot be used as part of the 15hr or 30hr funding. This can be added to am sessions (subject to availability).

Parents are also able to pay for nursery fees/lunches with childcare vouchers – this is not to be confused with the Government 15/30 hour funding.  However, when paying with childcare vouchers, you will need to provide the office with the exact date the voucher was processed, the payment amount and your reference number as childcare voucher providers do not notify the school directly with this information.

We have spaces for 30 children at each session. We do operate a waiting list.

Uniform:

Children are not expected to wear school uniform, although some families do choose to have their child wear school uniform. We do ask that children come in comfortable appropriate clothing. These should be easy for the children to put on/pull up etc. to develop their independence skills. Spare clothes need to be in a small bag, not a rucksack, and these will be kept in Nursery. All items including bags need to be clearly named.

It is important that every effort is made to support your child to be toilet trained by the time they join our Nursery, if your child is still in nappies or pull ups, please supply a change of nappies and wipes or creams that they would normally use in their bag, which will be kept in Nursery.

Your child will be experimenting with many messy activities. We are happy to change any wet or messy clothes if you have provided a supply. It is also a good idea to have a spare pair of shoes in your child’s bag if possible. Please ensure these are named If your child has pierced ears, they must only wear stud earrings.

General Information:

The nursery doors open at 8.30am for the morning session. Parents come through into the nursery garden and drop their child at the door to nursery.

Some children go home at 11:30am and the afternoon children come into nursery at 12.30pm.

Parents enter through the main entrance on Highfield Road. It is important that parents and carers arrive on time. If you are late please press the nursery buzzer.

At the end of the children’s session parents will enter through the Our Main (middle) entrance on Highfield Road , either through the buzzer gate or open gate at the end of the day. Parents are asked to wait in the area outside the gate to the Nursery playground and the children will be brought out to you. All gates that parents or carers open to enter, need to be closed behind them as we operate different timetables.

Please be punctual when arriving and collecting your child. If possible, please telephone the school to inform us if you are going to be late. In cases of late collection, we reserve the right to charge £5 for every 10 minutes you are late.

We look forward to welcoming your child into the Nursery setting. We are confident that your child will settle in well and are looking forward to a fun and fulfilling year.
