At Highfield, we have an exciting creative curriculum. This includes outstanding Music opportunities for all children!

Music In The Curriculum

Music is a wonderful way to engage children throughout the curriculum, from singing ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, to learn the parts of the body, to raps about 3D shapes! As well as teaching Music through other subjects, at Highfield we understand the importance of learning Music as a discrete subject. All children at Highfield are taught by a specialist Music teacher during the year and learn a range of skills which progress through each year group. It is also important for the children to learn and understand musical vocabulary and every year group has a word bank of musical terms they learn and use.

At Highfield, we are lucky to own a set of djembe drums. Children throughout the school use the drums to learn rhythmic patterns and are taught how the drum can be used to create different tones and dynamics.

Music Mark

This year, we were thrilled to receive a letter and a membership certificate from Music Mark. The Enfield Music Service recognised the high value we place on Music at Highfield and nominated us for membership! The membership entitles us to a range of resources our school can use to further improve our Music opportunities. Well done, Highfield!

Keyboard Lessons

Year 4 have enjoyed taking part in Keyboard lessons this year, which were run by a fantastic specialist EMS tutor. The children learnt a variety of skills such as finger position and playing duets. At the end of their first term, Year 4 performed in a concert to the school and showed us how much their playing had progressed. Well done, Year 4!

Enfield Music Service

We are privileged to work with the Enfield Music Service, who helps Highfield to provide even more amazing musical opportunities.

Singing As One Festival

This year, Year 3 took part in the Enfield Singing as One Festival where Highfield joined with other schools in the borough and sang a collection of songs together. Year 3 had a wonderful time learning and performing the songs and sounded fantastic.

Music Concerts

Over the past few years, Highfield has been treated to Music concerts performed by EMS tutors. Last year, we watched a strings concert and this year we were visited by a selection of woodwind instrument performers! The tutors played a variety of pieces of music, such as ‘The Bare Necessities’ and ‘The Pink Panther’ theme tune, and each tutor taught us about the instrument they were playing. After the concert, some children had the opportunity to play the instruments, from the flute to the saxophone to the huge bassoon! Thank you to the tutors for an amazing concert!
