  Year 2 Curriculum Plan

2L Autumn Highlights

The first term has flown by quickly and the children have enjoyed a wide variety of activities in all curriculum areas.

Hanukkah – The Festival of Lights

The children enjoyed learning and participating in the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah. The children watched the service for the lighting of the Hanukiah. They sang traditional songs about the holiday and enjoyed eating a traditional food called Latkas. 2L acted out the story of the Maccabees and wrote about why Hanukkah is important for Jewish people. Finally, they played a game with the driedels that the made at home. “Playing with the driedels is so much fun!” said Oscar.

Delicious Doughnuts

In design and technology, the children also learned how to make doughnuts. They tasted a variety of doughnuts and figured out the ingredients they would need. In English, they wrote they’re own recipe for doughnuts. In groups, the children measured and mixed the ingredients. The cooked them and then decorated the finished product.

“It was lots of fun mixing the batter together,” said Kyle.

“My doughnut was delicious,” said Nicol.
