Charity Events

Charity events are part of life at Highfield. We are proud of the contribution that pupils and their families make to a wide range of events that are organised at class, year group and the whole school level. Each year an amazing amount of money is distributed to a range of causes. It is arguably of equal importance that our pupils have learnt first-hand about the objectives of a range of causes. This exposure for some will act as a catalyst for lifelong support of a particular cause. We welcome representatives from a range of charities each year to contribute to the PSHE programme and to attend different events that are organised. Our charity work helps our pupils to:

  • develop an awareness of the need in the local, national and international settings
  • respond to identified needs both as individuals and as groups
  • support and organise a range of events that generate funds for a designated cause
  • develop a sense of community

Our Current School Charity Efforts

Through supporting a number of charities throughout the year, the children learn to appreciate the privileges and luxuries they have, and that others perhaps don’t.

Year 2020

Sport Relief

Sports Relief Week this year was amazing! Each year group competed in their own obstacle courses. Year 4, for example, had their obstacle course in the hall. They had to jump over the horse, climb up through the climbing frame, make their way up the rope swing and ladder, run through obstacles and jump over hurdles. They tried to go on for as long as they could. The children could also buy Sport Relief wristbands throughout the week to commemorate the occasion. The total raised for Sports Relief 2020 was £844.55.

Year 2019

Christmas Jumper Day

Highfield wore their festive jumpers on Friday 13th December to raise money for the ‘Save the Children’ charity. We raised a fantastic total of £452.50. Thank you for all your generous contributions, particularly during this time of the year when it is important to consider people who are less fortunate than us. Save the Children provide support to children both in the UK and worldwide. Our donations will aid them in their vital efforts to support children.

Children in Need Day

On Friday 15th November Highfield raised money for Children in Need. We raised an incredible total of £1,120.00, which is the highest record yet! Thank you for your generous donations throughout the week for wristbands, badges and donations to dress up. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day in their own clothes and reflected on the less advantaged lives of other children and young adults in the UK.

Bag to School

In June the Friends of Highfield supported our school to raise funds for the school and support the Bag to School fundraiser. Each child was provided with a bag and they donated unwanted clothes, shoes, soft toys and other accessories. These items promoted the message to care for the environment, recycle and stop unwanted textiles away from landfill.

Each year group took part in travelling a mile around the playground in a different way. Many children got sponsored by friends and family for completing this challenge and with all your kind contributions we raised over £1000 for the charity
